Beef liver in particular is a wonderful super food which will boost energy. Traditional cultures have been eating liver from pastured animals for thousands of years for it’s amazing health benefits. It is high in iron, which circulates oxygen throughout the body (a must for energy), as well as almost every other vitamin and mineral! The high dose of B-12 in liver naturally increases your energy levels, Liver helps us make new red blood cells to help keep our energy levels up. Women in traditional cultures all around the world ate liver for its revitalizing properties (balances hormones, boosts libido, promotes fertility). If the thought of eating liver makes you cringe, consider taking desiccated liver tablets or powder from grass fed beef or sourced from Argentine beef. Your energy will go through the roof!
Skipping the caffeine and substituting it for a handful of raw, unsalted nuts will give you energy without the shakiness and eventual sugar crash. Nuts are an amazing source of healthy fats and proteins that balance blood sugar levels, which tend to drop if you don’t eat for a while. Eating nuts as a snack will keep you going throughout the day.
If you experience that mid-afternoon slump, cut up an orange. If you’re feeling daring, sprinkle some chili powder on top for a spicy-sweet flavor. The vitamin C in the orange helps circulate oxygen throughout your body and into your brain, giving you a surge of energy those yawns are hinting that you need.
Fish is a magical food source—it contains omega-3 fats that protect brain cells and help your brain function better. If you’re feeling particularly sluggish, prepare some baked salmon for yourself. Not only does it make you feel more awake, but fish is also a lighter meal (with plenty of protein nonetheless!).
Berries are amazing super foods and are delicious! Since they are filled with antioxidants, they help our neural pathways function much more smoothly. In effect, berries makes us feel way more alert and awake. They also elevate mood. Berries are about 85% water. Eating watery fruits boosts your fluid intake. Taking in enough water protects you against dehydration, which can cause fatigue.
Avocados are wonderful energy boosters rich in monounsaturated fats used for energy instead of being stored as unhealthy fats. Avocados also contain B-vitamins—energy boosting vitamins. Add some avocado to your omelet in the morning, or your salad during lunch. Avocados pair well with acidic fruits such as oranges and fresh tomatoes. Slice up a fresh vine ripened tomato with slices of avocado and sprinkle with a little unrefined sea salt for a delicious energizing snack.
7. Dates
Dates have a naturally high abundance of sugar, so the next time you want to add brown sugar or maple syrup to your oatmeal, just slice up some dates instead! The sugar in dates is actu ally way different than the processed sugar that you can find in soda or candy. You won’t feel that spike in glucose levels, nor will you crash and burn later on. Dates are awesome because they’re filled with fiber, so it’s energy that is effective and long-lasting.
Eggs are a great way to start your day. Skip the egg white omelet and get the yolk included. While some people believe it can be high in cholesterol, egg yolks have been proven to reduce bad cholesterol in the long run. The egg yolks also contain amazing energizing properties. They are rich in B vitamins, which act by turning the food you eat into the energy you need. Eggs are a perfect source of protein. Animal protein is superior to vegetable protein. And in turn, eggs are at the top of the tree of animal protein.
You definitely need some carbs in your diet, and the complex ones can do wonders for your body. Smartly eating carbs can boost your serotonin levels, which will make you feel happier and more energized. Quinoa is a seed, so not only is it full of protein, it also contains all nine essential amino acids, and provides hundreds of milligrams of magnesium per serving.
Beans are a great substitute for meat whether you’re going vegetarian or you simply want to cut back on meat. Beans have high levels of protein and minerals. Best of all, they have a low glycemic index, which stabilizes your energy levels. Add some garbanzo or black beans in your salad at lunch or enjoy a bean and cheese burrito for dinner. Eating just one serving per day (1/2 cup) can make you feel much less sluggish. Beans provide approximately 7 grams of both protein and fiber per serving. They are filling and will boost your energy.
