In this post I will share with you two simple detox drinks you can make and drink on a daily basis to cleanse and detoxify your body. The best way to detoxify your body is by changing your diet. There’s a lot of fad detox programs and supplemental preparations out there. But if you want to effectively cleanse and detoxify, you want to eliminate foods that are high in sugars, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, GMO’s, highly processed foods and you want to adapt a whole food based diet rich in fruits and vegetables, preferably organic when you can to limit exposure to pesticides an herbicides as well as consume grass fed or pasture raised animals and animal products. If you can get toxic foods out of your diet and replace them with organic foods or local farmers or farmer markets that sell good quality food, that alone will help your body detox. In addition you can aid and accelerate detoxification by adding key foods and herbs into your diet on a daily basis. This will be more effective than doing a specific fast or 3, 5 or 7 day cleansing protocol.
Toxicity is what causes the majority of health issues today.
Toxicity causes you to gain weight, store body fat, causes inflammation in the body which is linked to most diseases. Toxicity has been linked to cancer and autoimmune disorders. It’s important to detox to help prevent disease but it’s crucial to detox if you have got a specific health condition or disease.
A great way to start off your day is with a whole food smoothie.
The key detoxifying ingredients in this smoothie I’m going to make is cilantro and my homemade green super food powder. Cilantro has an essential oil in it that removes heavy metals from the body. We are going to use one handful of chopped chopped fresh cilantro about ½ cup. You can also use a pure therapeutic grade cilantro essential oil in replacement of fresh cilantro. I make my own green super food powder with chlorella, spirullina, barley grass juice powder, alfalfa powder and goji berry juice powder. You can buy all of these ingredients individually at your local health food store or online in bulk. I mix them together and store in mason jars in my freezer and use 1 tbsp a day in smoothies or water. Chlorella in particular helps eliminate heavy metals from the body and helps eliminate radiation from the body that comes from everyday things like cell phones, microwaves, planes, etc Chlorella is a green algae. You can use your favorite green leafy vegetable such as romaine lettuce, spinach or kale – about 2 handfuls or 2 cups, about a quarter of a fresh pineapple or chopped frozen pineapple, Pineapple and cilantro taste good together. Use about a quarter of a large cucumber or ½ small, a half of an avocado and 1 cup water and a handful of ice if desired. Avocados are great because they are a form of concentrated raw fats and raw fats help transport toxins out of the cells. We want lots of good raw fats in our diets for detox.
The second drink I will make is a detox tonic drink.
This is a phenomenally beneficial drink recipe I acquired from Dr. Josh Axe from draxe.com. You need 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar which is high in acetic acid. This acid helps grow good bacteria in your gut and helps increase nutrition absorption and also beneficial for blood sugar control, decreasing cholesterol and blood pressure.
Next is 1 Tbsp lemon juice, preferably from fresh lemons. Lemons are very cleansing to the GI tract and liver. They are high in quercitin which decreases inflammation and histamine reactions from allergies.
I use a pinch of tumeric which contains a compound called curcumin. Curcumin protects the body against free radical damage.
A pinch of cinnamon which is great for aiding in balancing blood sugar. People who have diabetes or hyper or hypoglycemia want to make plentiful use of cinnamon.
A pinch of cayenne pepper or dash which has a thermogenic effect on the body which causes your body to produce more heat which burns more calories. It also helps dilate arteries and helps with lymphatic system drainage.
A teaspoon of raw honey added for a touch of sweetness. Use local honey which helps your immune system and is great for allergies.
Finally a pinch of ginger or a half inch piece of fresh pressed ginger (pressed with a garlic press). Ginger is anti-inflammatory and helps aid digestion. I recommend you drink this tonic about 10 minutes before each meal 1-3 times daily.
